Walking down High Street Road in Leytonstone, two subway stops after Stratford in North East London, you will surely be struck by the lights of a small cafe at the corner of the street. Between a small market gardener and the Red Lion - local pub - is L'Horizon Patisserie & Viennoiserie.

Walking down High Street Road in Leytonstone, two subway stops after Stratford in North East London, you will surely be struck by the lights of a small cafe at the corner of the street. Between a small market gardener and the Red Lion - local pub - is L'Horizon Patisserie & Viennoiserie.

As you open the door, the discussions and the laughter of the customers mixed with those of the staff illustrate the atmosphere of this multicultural neighbourhood. Indeed, the hanging lights as well as the large glass and wooden counter gives the place a cosmopolitan and welcoming look by mixing London, Mediterranean and Oriental styles. The conviviality of the place and its Algerian owners ensure the presence of many regular customers. Young and elders, locals or tourists, all queue in front of the long display case where are presented dishes, pastries and cakes that are just waiting to be eaten.

You can sit inside or on the terrace or enjoy the mezzanine for a little more tranquillity. You can also take your order away if you do not have the time or do not want to eat in. The cafe offers a wide range of lunches, as well as breakfast and drinks. If you go there in the morning, you can enjoy a full English breakfast for only £9.50. You only want an omelette? This is possible for £ 5.50 and you can choose between spinach, cheese, ham or mushroom.

They also serve salads all day long from £2.50 to £7 depending on which one you choose (Chicken, salmon, avocado, potatoes, niçoise, Mozzarella…). Eight different types of wraps are also available at £4.50. For those who prefer sandwiches, a large choice of nourishments is offered from £2.10 to £3.80. This café really offers choices for everyone and for every diet. We decided to go for a Tuna Mayo & Sweetcorn Panini and a Chicken Mayo & Sweetcorn Baguette which were very tasty and prepared at the moment. We also had a cappuccino for £3.10, and what a surprise it was! The coffee was served in a large cup, not hidden by the milk and the cream was delicious: the best we have ever tasted so far.

We finished with a delicious dessert inspired by a French dessert called Charlotte aux fraises – a mix of patisserie cream and strawberries - which only emphasized what we already thought about the quality of the food.

This place is really a place of tasting and sharing that offers something to please all the taste buds. Indeed, you can find classic European dishes and also more spicy plates which reflect the multicultural aspect of the establishment. As soon as we leave, we already want to go back. An address highly recommended: the service is perfect and the food delicious.
